Julia Anquier is a School of Visual Arts (NYC) bachelor in directing and screenwriting. She returned to Brazil in 2017 with the short film Farewell to Flesh. The movie is a sinister pop fable that brings to light rape culture in the midst of Rio de Janeiro’s carnival debauchery. The short film went through 13 film festivals and had its national premiere in Rio de Janeiro’s International Film Festival competing in the Premiere Brasil section. In 2019, it was nominated for the Grand Award of Brazilian Cinema. Julia created two documentary web-series for the Hysteria platform: 1/4 Dela and Estrangeiras. From 2017 to 2020, Julia collaborated on the HBO series Todxs Nós, writing two episodes for the second season, and Boca a Boca (Netflix). In 2021, together with Jo Bilac, she co-created the series Vendo a Vista for Rede Globo. She also signs the pilot and bible of the series Amora, an anthology based on the book by Nathalia Borges Polesso, for Big Bonsai. In 2023, she handed the script for the documentary feature film about Heloisa Buarque de Holanda, directed by Lula Buarque. Currently, she is developing her feature film Sangueiro and her authorial police series Terra do Meio.

Anquier was awarded a fellowship to the TFL TV Next Series, in 2023.
