Caru Alves de Souza is a director, screenwriter and producer from São Paulo, Brasil. Graduated in History, since 2008 she has been making documentaries, shorts, features and fiction series. In 2021, she was selected for the Master of Scenic Practices and Visual Culture at the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, where she developed an investigation into pornographic narratives. Her most recent fiction feature film, "My Name is Baghdad" (2020), won the Crystal Bear for best film at the Generation 14plus at 71st Berlin International Film Festival (2021). Produced by Rafaella Costa, from Manjericão Filmes, the screenplay had already been awarded by the Tribeca International Fund and Ibermedia. With Tangerina Entretenimento, producer company of Tata Amaral, she directed several films, including "Underage" (2014), her first feature, which had its world premiere at the 61st San Sebastián Film Festival (2013) and won the award for Best Film at Rio International Film Festival (2013).

Caru was awarded a fellowship to attend the Pop Up Film Residency 2022 with her feature film "Lonely Hearts", produced by Manjerião Filmes
