Esmir Filho's first feature film “The Famous and The Dead” (2009) won the Rio Festival, was selected for Locarno and Berlinale and awarded in Havana, Valdivia and Guadalajara. The short film “Something Like That” (2006) won the best script at Cannes and yielded a continuation in the 2018 eponymous feature. “Saliva” (2007) represented Brazil at the Oscars. In 2020, he debuted as a showrunner on Netflix with the series "Boca a Boca" and released his third feature film "Verlust".
Esmir was awarded a fellowship to attend Pop Up Film Residency, in Greece, in 2021.
