João Paulo Miranda Maria was born in the countryside of the state of SP/Brazil in 1982. Graduated in Cinema and Master in Multimeios at Unicamp. In the city of Rio Claro SP, he founded the collective Kino-Olho in order to research and practice through film essays. With the participants he made 3 short films - Command Action (Cannes Film Festival 2015, Critic's Week); The girl who danced with the devil (Cannes Film Festival 2016, Special Mention of the Jury in the official competition) and Meninas Formicida ( Venice Film Festival 2017, official selection). In December 2015 he was part of Next Step (Cannes Film Festival Critics Week Lab in partnership with Torino Film Lab). In 2017 he was selected for the Cinéfondation, Cannes Film Festival Residence. His first feature film Memory House was part of the Official Selection of Cannes Film Festival 2020, Toronto and San Sebastian.

In 2021, João was awarded a fellowship to attend the Ikusmira Berriak residence in Spain.
