Juliana Colares is a fiction and documentary screen and TV writer with a 10 years background of journalistic experience in politics, police, justice, health, education, urbanism and human rights. She received two of the most renowned awards in Brazilian journalism, Esso and Embratel. She wrote the script for the feature documentary "Por Onde Anda Makunaíma?", Best Film at the Brasilia Festival 2020, and was selected for the Festival de Cine de La Habana. She is the creator of the dark drama fiction series Dirty Mangrove, selected for the 19th Curso de Desarrollo de Proyectos Audiovisuales Iberoamericanos, a six-week residency in Madrid. Also, with Dirty Mangrove, she won 3rd place in the Frapa 2020 script competition and 2nd best pitching by the ROTA official jury, in 2019.

In 2021, Juliana was awarded a fellowship to develop the series project "Mangue Sujo" in the 19th edition of the Curso de Desarrollo de Proyectos Audiovisuales Iberoamericanos, a Spanish residency of the Ibermedia Program.
