Lillah Halla holds a degree in Directing and Screenwriting from the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión de Cuba (2010-2014) and completed a research program in experimental cinema at the Fine Arts Department of Concordia University in Montreal (2014). GOLDEN BALLS, her second feature film, is currently in development. The project was part of the NEXT STEP II 2024 program (Semaine de la Critique at Cannes) and was recently selected for the Hubert Bals Fund Development Support program. LEVANTE (BR/FR/UY | 2023 | 99 min), her debut feature, recently premiered at the Semaine de la Critique at Cannes 2023, where it won the FIPRESCI Award. The film has received over 20 awards worldwide and is currently distributed in more than 15 territories. MENARCA (BR | 2020 | 23 min), Lillah’s short film, premiered at the Semaine de la Critique at Cannes 2020 and was licensed to Canal+. The short was awarded and screened internationally, being featured as “Film of the Day” by MUBI in 2022. Lillah has also collaborated on other cinema and theater productions: she was a script consultant for Rule 34 (Golden Leopard at Locarno 2022), for Island of the Hungry Ghosts (Best Documentary at Tribeca 2019, nominated for the Spirits Award 2020), co-writer for Ensaio (Forum Berlinale 2019, commissioned by the São Paulo Biennial 2018), and co-dramaturg for the play Stabat Mater (Shell Award for Best National Playwriting - Brazil 2020). Lillah is also the co-founder of Vermelha, a São Paulo-based film collective and political project for women/queer filmmakers in Brazil since 2014.
Lillah was awarded a fellowship to attend the 10º Sam Spiegel International Film Lab and develop her feature screenplay "Reflexo de Flehmen". In 2024, Lillah was selected with the "Colhões de Ouro" project, by the Hubert Bals Fund, and received support from Projeto Paradiso.
